The Prothane name has become synonymous with innovative high performance polyurethane based bushings and driveline components for many years now and is a leading automotive urethane manufacturer renowned all over the world. Going with polyurethane on your mounts and bushings is a great idea, as poly is an ideal material for performance suspension bushings, motor and transmission mounts. This isn't to say that the OEM's rubber suspension bushings and mounts aren't a proven compromise, however, additional horsepower, bigger tires, lifted truck suspension or lowered canyon carving street setups all mix with normal atmospheric conditions and under-car grit and grime to stress rubber bushings beyond design limits. Polyurethane mounts and bushings are firm enough to control movement and maintain alignment in sway bars, control arms and other stressed suspension components without the harshness or resonance associated with solid metal suspension bushings. We believe that after experiencing the precise steering, road feedback and the added firmness Prothane Polyurethane Bushings offer, you'll never go back to rubber bushings ever again.
When considering upgrading your lower transmission "dogbone" mount, know that while the soft factory bushings may do an adequate job of damping engine vibration, they can also create a rubbery, vague response in your car's powertrain. Upgrading your factory lower "dog bone" mount helps to reduce your car's wheel hop, as well as your car's throttle response and shifting. The Prothane Polyurethane 2-piece "Dog Bone" Mount Kit replaces your soft factory OEM mount and is a heavier duty solid mount with a durameter of 85A that assists in reducing engine bucking under load. If you're just getting into a MK4 or Beetle and are looking to do upgrades, this is one of the first that should be done.
NOTE: Please be aware that polyurethane is not as compliant as rubber. As a result, you may notice a slight increase in ride harshness and engine vibration after installation. Both Volkswagen and Audi have changed the torque arm mount mid-production cycle. To ensure you receive the correct item, please make sure that your OE mount looks like the mount pictured here.
